Educational consultant opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Computer Science educator to act as an educational consultant and drive forward our development of a robotics coding simulator. Our partner Bloomberg has been working hard to build the back-end of the simulator, creating the functionality needed to move the project forward. We now require the help of an experienced educator to further develop a set of curriculum-linked lessons and collaborate closely with Bloomberg to ensure the simulator meets the requirements for each lesson.

This is a paid consultancy opportunity with a set budget  ̶ ̶  fees can be discussed with the right candidate. As a consultant, you will be self-employed and responsible for self-reporting and any other tax-related expenses.

The brief list of requirements are available below:

Using the supplied templates, write a set of six lesson packs that guide learners through the six supplied lesson sketches.

The lesson pack should include:

    • A lesson plan that details the core information a teacher needs to deliver an outstanding lesson (see template)
    • A slideshow a teacher can use to introduce the lesson and cover the concepts and techniques required to successfully address the challenges featured in the application.
    • A worksheet (or set of) that provides activities to guide the learner through each challenge.
    • Cheat sheets with step-by-step instructions to solve the challenges that can be used as scaffolding to support differentiation.
    • A curriculum map listing the GCSE and KS3 Computer Science standards that are addressed or covered in the lesson.

As well as the lesson pack, you will need to review the existing arena designs and challenges to ensure they have sufficient complexity and differentiation for the intended audience. You will also need to provide ongoing feedback to the developer team who will be creating the application, to ensure the lessons are achievable in the app.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send a CV and a brief outline of your experience highlighting your understanding of the KS3+4 Computer Science curriculum and any relevant project management or software development work to teams@firstuk.org. We will review applications on an ongoing basis from 17 March 2021 until the position is filled.

We anticipate this work will require five days of development time and regular one-hour development meetings until the end of the school year (approx. two days).

This project is a great opportunity to help develop an educational tool that will be rolled out across the UK and to the wider FIRST Tech Challenge community around the world.
